| Two different sample preparation protocols for the determination of 37 emerging and historical halogenated flame retardants (HFRs) in marine tissues were compared with regards to extraction recovery, lipid removal efficiency, repeatability, reproducibility, and ability to measure sub-ng g−1 (dry weight) concentrations in marine biota. | The accident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) in March 2011 led to an unprecedented direct input of artificial radioactivity into the marine environment. The Institute for Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety was requested by the French authorities to investigate the radioecological impact of this input, in particular the potential contamination of products of marine origin used for human consumption. | In this paper, we review those data which have recently become available for brominated flame retardants (particularly the brominated diphenyl ethers (BDEs) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD)) in samples from the European environment. Environmental compartments studied comprise the atmosphere, sediments and soils. sewage sludges. and a variety of biological samples and food chains. This is currently a very active research area, and we cite over 70 studies reported in the literature during 2003-04. Findings include that the input of BDEs (especially BDE209) to the Baltic Sea by atmospheric deposition now exceeds that of PCBs by a factor of almost 40 times. | Результаты многолетних исследований ИнБЮМ НАН Украины по биоразнообразию основных звеньев биоты Черного моря (на шельфе Крымского п-ова) позволяют считать, что пик деградации морской биоты, наибольшего обеднения ее видового богатства пришелся на период с конца 1980-х до середины 1990-х годов. После 1995 - 1998 гг. стали регистрироваться признаки оздоровления экосистем, которые затрагивают все звенья как пелагических, так и донных сообществ. Улучшение состояния биоты и увеличение числа встречаемых видов на крымском шельфе и даже в Севастопольских бухтах продолжаются до настоящего времени.
